Would you send an assistant to your virtual meetings on your behalf? What about inviting someone to join you in taking notes?
Google introduced new generative AI features for its video conferencing software Meet on Tuesday, including meeting summaries with action items and video samples, real-time teleprompting, live translated captions, and the ability to dispatch a bot to attend a meeting on your behalf. Google joins video conferencing service Zoom and transcription software vendor Otter.ai in offering comparable functionality.
Microsoft is also testing some with a small number of clients. The hope is that artificial intelligence will assist workers in keeping better track of what transpires in meetings, whether they attend or not. AI might potentially be used to automatically arrange follow-up meetings or write emails based on meeting items. According to Zoom, almost 216,000 organizations use its service, with total users joining meetings hundreds of millions of times per day. Otter.ai claims to have over 10 million registered users.
After Duet AI, Google's AI, becomes available in the coming months, select customers will be able to send it to a meeting for them. Google's translated captions, summaries, and teleprompting functions will be available next year. It also intends to provide studio lighting and music, dynamic tiles, and automatic face detection, which will give guests in the same room their own tile on the screen.
Virtual meetings can be time-consuming. Google is addressing this with new generative AI features for Meet, its video conferencing software. These features include:
Meeting summaries with action items and video snippets: Stay on top of what transpired even if you miss a meeting.
Real-time teleprompting: Deliver presentations with confidence.
Live translated captions: Ensure clear communication across languages.
AI meeting assistant (Duet AI): Send a bot to attend meetings on your behalf (coming soon).
Similar functionality is offered by Zoom and Otter.ai, with Microsoft also testing AI features. These advancements aim to improve meeting productivity by:
Automatically generating follow-up meetings or emails: Save time on post-meeting tasks.
Providing a record of discussions for all attendees: Everyone stays informed.
Duet AI will be available in the coming months, while translated captions, summaries, and teleprompting will arrive next year. Google also plans to introduce features like studio lighting, background music, dynamic tiles, and automatic face detection for a more engaging meeting experience.
